About John Morton
I make things.
Sometimes those things are paintings. Sometimes they're websites. Sometimes they're logos, maps, prototypes, digital products, or ideas that haven't fully taken shape yet.
I've spent most of my life moving between art, technology, design, and hands-on problem solving.
Artist
Drawing was my first creative obsession, and it never really went away. Over the years I've worked in illustration, watercolor, screen printing, painting, photography, and woodworking. My workshop and basement studio have hosted everything from hand-built printing equipment to experimental projects that probably shouldn't have worked — but somehow did. Creating art remains the foundation of how I see the world.
Designer
My formal education is in art, but my career eventually led me into product design and user experience. What fascinates me about UX is that it's ultimately about people — their motivations, behaviors, frustrations, and goals. I've conducted research, designed interfaces, built prototypes, and tested products with users. One project I designed and developed helped uncover opportunities worth nearly $3 million annually; another involved serving as the sole designer for a fintech startup from idea to launch.
Builder
Before working professionally in design, I spent years in manufacturing and operations leadership. That experience taught me how products get made, how systems break down, and how small improvements can create outsized results. It's also why I tend to approach projects differently than many designers — I care about execution just as much as ideas.
Musician, Writer & Lifelong Learner
Outside of client work you'll often find me playing guitar, writing, reading about personal finance, or pursuing entirely new skills simply because they seem interesting. Curiosity has been one of the most valuable tools in my career. The more disciplines you explore, the more opportunities you have to connect ideas in unexpected ways.
